Ryan Flinn was born April 20, 1980 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 5th round choice, 143rd overall selection of the New Jersey Devils in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Flinn played five years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with stops in Laval, Acadie-Bathurst, Halifax and Cape-Breton before making his professional debut with the ECHL's Reading Royals in 2001-02.

The 6'4", 221lbs forward from Halifax, Nova Scotia known more for his aggressive style of play on the ice accumulated over 1,100 PIM in his junior career and lead the ECHL in major penalties prior to being called up to the AHL's Manchester Monarchs early into the 2001-02 season.

Flinn went on to play the majority of the season with Manchester, while playing in ten games with the Kings in 2001-02. Flinn split the 2002-03 season between Manchester and the Kings, and managed to score his first NHL goal.

Flinn would spend the next few seasons with the Monarchs before being signed as a free agent by the San Antonio Rampage. He would see action in 61 games with the Rampage before signing in the off-season with the Edmonton Oilers in the summer of 2007

Traded to Cape Breton (QMJHL) by Halifax (QMJHL) for Cape Breton's 4th round (Vincent Lambert) and 10th round pick (later traded to Acadie-Bathurst who selected Charles Bergeron) in 2001 QMJHL Priority Draft, October 1, 1999. Signed as a free agent by Los Angeles, January 8, 2002. Missed majority of 2004-05 due to foot and leg injuries. Missed majority of 2005-06 due to concussion vs. Chicago, November 26, 2005. Signed as a free agent by Edmonton, July 17, 2007. Signed as a free agent by Montreal, July 7, 2008. Signed as a free agent by Rockford (AHL), January 13, 2009.
