Kyle Rossiter was born June 9, 1980 in Edmonton, Alberta. The 1st choice, 30th overall selection of the Florida Panthers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Rossiter is a graduate of the Western Hockey League's Spokane Chiefs.

The Edmonton, AB native spent four seasons with the Spokane earning WHL and CHL Scholastic Player of the Year honours in 1997-98 while participating in the CHL's Top Prospects Game.

A strong skater who is defensive oriented, Rossiter finished second in penalty minutes with the Chiefs in 1998-99 with 206 before having a breakout season in 1999-2000. Spokane's nominee for the Bill Hunter Trophy (WHL Defenseman of the Year), Rossiter finished 10th in team scoring and second in penalty minutes and was a member of Canada's World Junior team and was instrumental in leading the Chiefs to the 2000 WHL Finals.

In 2000-01, Rossiter made his professional debut with the Panthers AHL affiliate in Louisville, leading the team in games played (78) before spending the majority of the 2001-02 season with the AHL's Utah Grizzlies while playing in two games with the Panthers. Over the course of the next two seasons, Rossiter saw limited action with Florida, spending the majority of his time with the AHL's San Antonio Rampage before being acquired by the Atlanta Thrashers just prior to the 2004 trade deadline.
