David Vyborny was born June 2, 1975 in Jihlava, Czech Republic. The second pick, 33rd overall of the Edmonton Oilers in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Vyborny made his North American debut with the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers in 1994-95.

After only one season in North America, Vyborny returned to Europe and to his club team Sparta Praha. An offensively gifted player, Vyborny went on to play five more seasons in Europe leading the Czech Elite League in scoring in 1998-99 and leading the team to a regular season and playoff championships before signing as a free agent with the Columbus Blue Jackets once the season was over.

Upon his arrival in Columbus, Vyborny became an offensive contributor immediatley with seasons of 32 and 31 points before establishing a career high in goals with 20 and points 46 in 2002-03. Vyborny continued to improve offensively in 2003-04, notching 22 goals and 53 points.

On the international stage, the Jihlava native has represented his country at two World Junior Championships (1993-1994) and seven World Championships (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2005) and was a member of the Czech Republic's World Cup of Hockey entry and its 2006 Winter Olympic team.
