Martin Strbak was born January 15, 1975 in Presov, Slovakia. The ninth round, 244th overall selection of the Los Angeles Kings in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft, Strbak honed his skills in Europe before making his North American debut in 2003-04.

A stay-at-home defenseman, Strbak has played in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Finland and most recently in Russia. A familiar face with Slovakia's World Championship team, Strbak has represented his homeland at six World Championships (2000-2005), capturing a gold medal (2002), a silver medal (2000) and a bronze medal (2003).

In 2003-04, Strbak made his long-awaited NHL debut with the Los Angeles Kings, splitting the early part of the season between the Kings and their AHL affiliate in Manchester before having his rights dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Upon his arrival with the Penguins, Strbak went to register 14 points (3-11-14) in 44 games.

In the fall of 2004, Strbak represented his homeland at the World Cup of Hockey.
