Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Daniel Berthiaume
Goalkeeper Daniel Berthiaume was only 155lbs. but his lightning quick reflexes allowed him to be a force in junior and the minors as well as a decent NHLer. He made in excess of 200 appearances for five different clubs between 1985-86 and 1993-94.

"The Bandit" was born in the Montreal suburb of Longueuil, Quebec. He was a standout in the QMJHL with the Drummondville Voltigeurs and Chicoutimi Sagueneens. In 1985 he was selected 60th overall by the Winnipeg Jets. The next year he was impressive in 31 games as a rookie and followed up with 22 wins in 1987-88. By the end of the decade his play tailed off and he lost his standing with the club to Bob Essensa, Pokey Reddick, and Alain Chevrier.

Berthiaume sought a fresh start after he was traded to Minnesota in January 1990 to support Jon Casey. He didn't play much there but was revitalized briefly with the L.A. Kings in 1990-91. He won 20 games in 37 starts and posted a 3.31 goals against average but could not gain more playing time at the expense of first stringer Kelly Hrudey.

Berthiaume toiled briefly for the Boston Bruins during the latter stages of the 1991-92 before joining the expansion Ottawa Senators the next season. He spent most of his last several years as a pro in the minors before retiring in 2000. His finest season during this stage of his career came with the WPHL's Central Texas Stampede in 1996-97 when he led the league with 54 appearances and a 3.38 goals against average.
