Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Darrin Madeley
Netminder Darrin Madeley played briefly with the Ottawa Senators in the early 90s. He was a top player in college and went on to enjoy moderate success in the minors.

Born in Holland Landing, Ontario. Madeley starred for three seasons at Lake Superior State University. He was named to the CCHA first all-star team twice, the second unit once and was a two time selection to the NCAA west first-all-american team. Madeley led the Lakers to two NCAA championship tournaments and won the title in 1992. A few weeks after winning the US Collegiate title, he signed with Ottawa as a free agent.

During his first pro season the young netminder played a couple of NHL games for the expansion Senators and posted a 3.32 goals against average on the AHL's New Haven Nighthawks. His solid effort earned Madeley a place on the league's second all-star team. The next year he posted a 3-18-5 record on the woeful Senators and was relegated to the minors by the next season. In 1995-96 his fate was sealed in Ottawa when the club acquired Damian Rhodes from the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Madeley signed with San Jose in October 1996 but spent the year in the minors. He was troubled by injuries in 1997-98 and was restricted to a few games wit TPS Turku of Finland and the ECHL's Richmond Renegades. He retired in 1999 after playing most of the season with the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL.
