Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Andre Racicot
Andre Racicot tended net in less than stellar fashion with the Granby Bisons of the QMJHL between 1987 and 1989. His performance was strong enough, however, to entice the Montreal Canadiens to select him 83rd overall in the 1989 Entry Draft.

Racicot spent most of his first pro season with the Sherbrooke Canadiens of the AHL. There he brought his goal-against-average down to 2.99, enough to look like a serious candidate to be Patrick Roy's backup.

After a little more seasoning with Fredericton of the AHL, Racicot finally got his chance to work as the Habs' spare netminder. But stepping in behind Patrick Roy in the high-pressure setting of Canadiens' hockey was difficult. Between NHL pipes, Racicot performed well against the weaker clubs in the league but often got shellacked by the NHL's better clubs. As such, he was christened with the dubious nickname "Red Light" Racicot.

He struggled on through parts of three more seasons with the Canadiens before his demotion to the minors. Since 1994, Racicot has embarked on a lengthy minor-league career that has taken him to such diverse locales as Portland, Phoenix, Albany, Columbus, Indianapolis, Peoria, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Monroe, Britain, and, most recently, to Bakersfield where he tended net for the Condors of the WCHL during the 2000-01 campaign.
