Steve K. Weeks

Steve played four years of NCAA hockey with Northern Michigan, backstopping the team to a berth in the Championship game in 1980 before finally losing, 5-2, to the University of North Dakota.

Selected in the 11th round of the NHL draft, 176th overall, by the New York Rangers, Weeks played in one game in the 1980-81 season. The following year, he was the Rangers' number-one goaltender, appearing in 49 games with a record of 23-9-9. That would be the most games Weeks would ever play in a single season, with most clubs believing his strength was as a backup netminder.

He moved on to join the Hartford Whalers in 1984, being traded for the always discomfitting future considerations, playing three seasons in Connecticut as the number-two goaltender.

In March 1988 Weeks was dealt by the Whalers to the Vancouver Canucks for 1982 playoff hero Richard Brodeur. But once again, he was traded for future considerations, this time to the Buffalo Sabres on March 5, 1991.

After signing as a free agent with the New York Islanders, Weeks was sent packing again, this time to the L.A. Kings for their 7th-round draft choice in 1992. The next stop was with the Washington Capitals before yet another trade, this time to the Ottawa Senators on August 13, 1992 for the now familiar future considerations.

Weeks, while certainly a category NHL journeyman, managed to play in 290 games over a 12-year career
