Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Doug Dadswell
Doug Dadswell was born on February 2nd, 1967 in Scarborough, Ontario and went on to play two seasons with Cornell University. An All-Star season in 1986 that saw Dadswell backstop Cornell to an ECAC title caught the attention of the Calgary Flames. Dadswell spent the bulk of the 1986-87 season with the Flames farm club in Moncton, but the goaltender was called up by the big club for two games that year.

Dadswell was unable to record a victory in his two games with the Flames but did earn a tie. In the summer of 1987 long time Flames netminder Rejean Lemelin signed a free agent contract with the Boston Bruins opening up a roster spot behind Flames incumbent Mike Vernon. Dadswell won the job out of camp and became an NHL regular. Dadswell played 25 games for Calgary and posted an 8-7-2 record. However the Flames felt they need more goaltending security and acquired veteran Rick Wamsley at the 1988 trade deadline, signaling the end of Dadswell's time with the Flames, and in the NHL.

Dadswell spent the 1988-89 year in the minors, a year the Flames went on to capture the Stanley Cup then Dadswell left the game that summer.

After a year away from hockey he returned and spent the 1990-91 season with the Canadian National Team. Dadswell played two more years of hockey with several minor pro clubs before retiring for good in 1993.

Dadswell was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.
