Netminder Bruce Dowie played a couple of games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1983-84. He had moderate success in the minors but was best known as top junior player.

Born in Oakville, Ontario, Dowie was signed as a free agent by the Maple Leafs in 1983 after winning 94 games in four seasons with the Toronto Marlboros of the OHL. Late in the 1982-83 season he joined the AHL's St. Catharines Saints for a few games then spent the bulk of the next season with the Muskegon Mohawks of the IHL. Late in the 1983-84 regular season Dowie started a game for Toronto in Buffalo and played solidly. After this he battled injuries and only played a few minor pro games before retiring in 1987.
