Netminder Gord Laxton made a few appearances for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the late 70s. After a fine amateur career he enjoyed several years of success in the AHL and IHL.

The Montreal native was selected 13th overall by the Penguins in 1975 after two solid years with the WCJHL's New Westminster Bruins. During his first four pro seasons he was recalled to the NHL periodically which added up to 17 regular season appearances.

In 1978-79 Laxton played 63 games with the IHL's Grand Rapids Owls, was named to the league's first all-star team and presented the James Norris Memorial Trophy for allowing the fewest goals. Laxton retired in 1983 after playing 40 games with the Muskegon Mohawks of the "I".
