Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Corrado Micalef
Goalkeeper Corrado Micalef logged a fair bit of time between the pipes for the Detroit Red Wings in the early 1980s. He was also a junior standout and enjoyed a great deal of success in Europe.

The Montreal native was drafted 44th overall by the Detroit Red Wings in 1981 after an exemplary junior career with the Sherbrooke Castors of the QMJHL. In 1980, he was presented the Jacques Plante Award for having the lowest goals against average in the high scoring junior loop. He also played five games for Canada at the 1981 World Junior Championships before turning pro the next season. Micalef split the 1981-82 season between the NHL and the IHL's Kalamazoo Wings.

During the early '80s, Micalef gave Detroit a decent goaltending tandem with Gilles Gilbert and Greg Stefan. After recording two shutouts and a 3.62 goals against average in 1982-83, he was named the Wings' rookie-of-the-year by the Detroit Sports Broadcasters' Association. During the early '80s, he made 30 appearances twice for Detroit and was the spare goaltender for Canada at the 1986 World Championships. Beginning in 1987-87, Micalef's focus was on establishing himself in Europe. He spent several years in Switzerland, France, and Italy and later played 18 games for the San Francisco Spiders of the IHL before retiring in 1996.
