Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Terry Richardson
Terry Richardson played two seasons of junior hockey for the New Westminster Bruins of the WCJHL from 1971 to 1973. It was then that the Detroit Red Wings made him their first pick in the Amateur Draft.

Once in the Red Wings' organization, Richardson embarked on a pattern of appearing in a handful of NHL games each year while spending most of his time tending goal for various Wings minor-league affiliates. Over his four seasons in the organization, he backstopped his way across the far reaches of Wingsdom, putting in stints with the Virginia Wings, the London Lions, the Springfield Indians, the New Haven Nighthawks, the Kalamazoo Wings, and the Kansas City Wings.

In all, he picked up 18 games in the Motor City before being traded to the St. Louis Blues in 1978. The Blues were already well stocked with goalies in Phil Myre, Doug Grant, and Ed Staniowski. But the club's management liked Richardson's size and quick reflexes. In the end, it wasn't enough to secure a role with the club. After losing one game with a goals-against average of 7.95, he was sent to minors where he rounded out his pro career with the Salt Lake City Eagles and the Springfield Indians in 1980.
