Goaltender Ron Scott began his hockey career with the QMJHL's Cornwall Royals in the 1978-79 season and went on to play for the Michigan State University Spartans in 1980.

During the 1981-82 season, Scott had a record of 24-13 with a 2.85 goals against average for the Spartans and was named the Hockey News College Player of the Year. The next season saw him improve to a 29-9 record and a 2.64 goals against as well as being named to the NCAA West's first all-American team for the second year in a row.

Scott signed with the New York Rangers as a free agent in 1983 and played in nine games. He spent the majority of the season with the CHL's Tulsa Oilers and the season after with the New Haven Nighthawks of the AHL. Scott made several trips up to the Rangers for brief stints before signing with the Los Angeles Kings in 1990.

He started the 1990-91 season with the Kings and made an appearance in the Stanley Cup playoffs before finishing his career in the AHL in 1991.
