Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Tyler Moss
Goaltender Tyler Moss was considered one of the top young goaltenders in the Ontario Hockey League in the mid 1990s and most hockey pundits would agree he made the Kingston Frontenacs a far better team than they would have been without him. He was named to the OHL's First All-Star Team in 1995. The Tampa Bay Lightning selected Moss in the second round, 29th overall in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft and all signs seemed to point to a fabulous NHL career.

Expectations for Moss were obviously quite high coming out of junior but he was unable to win a spot with Tampa Bay, who had veteran goalies Rick Tabaracci and Darren Pupa sharing the bulk of the workload. In March, 1997 Moss was dealt to the Calgary Flames for enforcer Jamie Huscroft. He played a total of 17 games with the Flames but was again unable to establish himself as a legitimate number one goaltender.

In March, 2000 Moss was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins but he never played with the team. He was eventually given his outright release and he then signed a free-agent deal with the Carolina Hurricanes that summer. In 2000-01 Moss tended goal for some or all of 12 games, but an official record of 1-6-0 did little to enhance his value, despite the fact the entire team was less than impressive in front of him. He also had starter Arturs Irbe to contend with and the club also acquired veteran Tom Barrasso that only seemed to muddy Moss's future with the club even further. He has faced two penalty shots during his brief tenure in the NHL. Colorado's Joe Sakic scored on him on November 1, 1997 but he stopped Dallas' Mike Modano on December 7, 1998.

After a season with the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters in 2001-02, Moss joined the Vancouver Canucks organization in 2002-03 and spent the majority of his playing time with the team's AHL affiliate in Manitoba while seeing limited action with the parent club. In November of 2004, the Edmonton Oilers aquired the former Kingston Frontenac in a trade that sent minor league player Peter Sarno to Vancouver.

Upon his arrival with the Oilers organization, Moss went on to spend the remainder of the 2003-04 season with the Toronto Roadrunners.
