Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Robbie Tallas
Since entering the NHL in 1995-96, goalie Rob Tallas has been a solid backup on two different clubs. He entered the 2000-01 season prepared to battle youngsters Johan Hedberg and Jean-Sebastian Aubin for the first string job in Pittsburgh.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Tallas starred with Penticton and South Surrey of the BCJHL. He also suited up for the Seattle Thunderbirds of the WHL and won 47 games over his last two seasons. The young backstopper signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins after playing solidly for the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers in 1994-95.

After playing 37 games for the AHL's Providence Bruins in 1995-96, he served as Bill Ranford and Jim Carey's backup the next year. He continued in this role when Byron Dafoe became the first stringer in 1997-98. Tallas signed as a free agent with the Chicago Blackhawks prior to the 1999-2000 season but only played 12 games. He inked a deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins in August 2001 hoping to challenge for significant playing time with the Pens.
