Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mathieu Chouinard
Mathieu Chouinard was born April 11, 1980 in Laval, Quebec. The first round, 15th overall selection of the Ottawa Senators in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Chouinard is a graduate of the QMJHLs Shawinigan Cataractes.

A big mobile goaltender, Chouinard played four seasons in Shawinigan, compiling a 104-60-13 record. Following his junior career, Chouinard and the Senators were unable to reach a contract agreement and the netminder re-entered the draft in 2000. Looking for a better faith the second time around, Chouinard was subsequently picked yet again by the Ottawa Senators, this time in the second round.

Chouinard went on to play three seasons in the Senators organization, with stops in Grand Rapids (IHL and AHL), Peoria (ECHL) and Binghamton (AHL) before signing as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings in the summer of 2003. Upon joining the Kings organization, Chouinard split his time with the AHLs Manchester Monarchs and ECHLs Reading Royals before getting his first taste of regular season action with the Kings in the latter stages of the 2003-04 season.
