Jason Labarbera was born January 18, 1980 in Prince George, B.C. The third round, 66th overall selection of the New York Rangers in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Labarbera is a graduate of the WHL.

A highly touted goaltender in junior, Labarbera suited up Tri-Ciy, Portland and Spokane before making his professional debut with the ECHL's Charlotte Checkers during the 2000-01 season. After a solid rookie campaign in Charlotte, Labarbera joined the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack for the 2001 post season, while suiting up for one game with the parent club in New York during the regular season.

In 2001-02, the Prince George, B.C. native returned to Charlotte before being assigned to Hartford where he finished the year. In 2002-03, Labarbera earned number one status and went on to play in a career high 46 games with the Wolf Pack before having a career year in 2003-04. Labarbera went on to finish the 2003-04 season with a 34-9-9 record with a 1.59 GAA and 13 shutouts, while playing in a handful of games with the parent club.

After spending the 2004-05 season with Hartford, Labarbera was acquired by the Los Angeles Kings in the summer of 2005.
