Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Philippe Sauve
Philippe Sauve was born February 27, 1980 in Buffalo, New York. The sixth choice, 38th overall selection of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, Sauve is a graduate of the QMJHL.

The son of former NHL netminder, Bob Sauve, Philippe Sauve continued in his father's foot steps as young goaltender growing up. Sauve went to play four seasons in the QMJHL, with stops in Rimouski, Drummondville and Hull. A QMJHL All-Star in 1998, Sauve went on to capture the 1999 CHL Humanitarian Award before making his professional debut in 2000-01.

After a strong junior career, Sauve joined Colorado's AHL affiliate in Hershey for the 2000-01 season and went on to play three seasons with the club capturing team MVP honours in both 2001 and 2003. An AHL All-Star in 2003, Sauve became Colorado's number two goaltender in 2003-04 behind David Aebischer who took over for the retired Patrick Roy and went on to play 17 games with the Avs', posting a 7-7-3 record.

During the lock out season of 2004-05, Sauve suited up for the ECHL's Mississippi Sea Wolves before having his rights acquired by the Calgary Flames in the summer of 2005. Sauve went on to play a mere eight games for the Flames before being dealt along with teammate Steven Reinprecht to the Phoenix Coyotes for goaltender Brian Boucher and forward Mike Leclerc.

After starting only five games with the Coyotes, Sauve was traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Tyler Redenbach midway through November.
