Luke Sellars was born May 21, 1981 in Toronto, Ontario. The 2nd round choice, 30th overall selection of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Sellars is a graduate of the Ontario Hockey League's Ottawa 67's.
A former Wexford Raiders Rookie of the Year in 1997-98, Sellars played three seasons with the 67's (1998-2001) finishing with 95 points (21 goals, 74 assists) and 370 penalty minutes in 171 games and was instrumental in leading the 67's to the 2001 OHL Championship.
A player with overall good vision of the developing play and strong hockey sense, Sellars made his professional debut in 2001-02 splitting the season between Atlanta's AHL and ECHL affiliates in Chicago and Greenville. Sellars led all ECHL defensemen in playoff goals with seven and was instrumental in Greenville's 2002 Kelly Cup championship victory while playing in one game with the parent club. Sellars played four games with the Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL in 2002-03, but spent the rest of the season with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
