Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Ross Lupaschuk
Ross Lupaschuk was born January 19, 1981 in Edmonton, Alberta. The second round, 34th overall selection of the Washington Capitals in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Lupaschuk is a graduate of the WHL where he had stops in Lethbridge, Prince Albert and Red Deer.

An offensively gifted defenseman, Lupaschuk spent five seasons in the WHL, seeing his offensive production increase each season and winning a Memorial Cup with Red Deer in 2001. Lupaschuk ended his WHL career with 64 goals and 104 assists for 168 points while amassing 590 penalty minutes.

Lupaschuk never had the opportunity to show off his skills in a Capitals uniform as he was involved in four player deal that sent him and up and coming prospects Kris Beech and Michal Sivek to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Frantisek Kucera and NHL Superstar Jaromir Jagr.

The 2001-02 season marked Lupaschuks professional debut with the Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre Scranton registering 29 points (9-20-29) in 74 games before making his NHL debut with the following year. In 2002-03 Lupaschuk continued to hone his skills with the baby Penguins while seeing his first NHL action with the parent club.
