Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Zdenek Blatny
Zdenek Blatny was born January 14, 1981 in Brno, Czech Republic. The third round, 68th overall selection of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Blatny is a graduate of the WHL.

After parts of two seasons with the Seattle Thunderbirds, Blatny joined the Kootenay Ice early into the 1999-00 WHL season. An offensively gifted player, Blatny registered 176 points in his last two seasons and finished his WHL career with 209 points (102 goals, 107 assists) in 170 games before making his professional debut in 2001-02.

A WHL East Second Team All-Star in 2000, Blatny helped the ECHL's Greenville Grrrowl capture the 2002 Kelly Cup and was also a member of the AHL's Chicago Wolves Calder Cup championship team. In 2002-03 Blatny made his NHL debut with the Thrashers, while continuing to hone his skills with the AHL, before seeing increased ice time in 2003-04.

Following a lock-out year in 2004-05, Blatny joined the Boston Bruins and spent the most of his playing time with the club's AHL affiliate in Providence before he was dealt to the Tampa Bay Lightning midway through the 2005-06 season. Blatny was then sent to the club's AHL affiliate in Springfield where he would spend 50 games before being signed as a free agent by MODO (Sweden), on January 12, 2007.

On the international stage Blatny led the Czech Republic to a Gold Medal at the 2001 World Junior Championship.
