Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Chris Kelly
Chris Kelly was born November 11, 1980 in Toronto, Ontario. The third round, 94th overall selection of the Ottawa Senators in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Kelly is a graduate of the OHLs London Knights and Sudbury Wolves.

An offensively gifted forward, Kelly played four seasons in the OHL, registering 254 points (106-148-254) before making his professional debut in 2001-02. In his first season as a pro, the Toronto, Ontario native spent the majority of the season with the AHLs Grand Rapids Griffins, while playing a handful of games with the UHLs Muskegon Fury.

In 2002-03, Kelly was a mainstay in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators and continued to work on his game through the 2003-04, season while impressing the Ottawa brass enough to warrant four games with the parent club.

In 2005-06 Kelly, became a mainstay on the Senators line-up appearing in 82 games with the club tallying 30 points.

Kelly would prove to be one of the Senators top two-way forwards and would be rewarded for his strong play. In the summer of 2008, with free agency looming on the horizon, he chose to stay in Ottawa and inked a four-year contract extension with the only NHL club he had ever known.

The 2010-11 season was a disappointing one in the nation's capital and in the days leading up to the NHL trade deadline it became clear that changes were coming. On February 15, 2011, the career Senator was traded to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a second round draft pick. The move turned out to be a fortuitous one for Kelly as the Bruins would go on to win the Stanley Cup only months later.

After surviving a first round scare from the Montreal Canadiens, the Bruins steamrolled over the Philadelphia Flyers and endured a seven game battle with the Tampa Bay Lightning en route to the Stanley Cup Final where they would take on the powerful Vancouver Canucks.

The Bruins would defeat the Canucks in a classic seven game series, with Kelly providing solid play at both ends of the ice.

After six seasons with the Bruins, Kelly would become an unrestricted free agent. On July 7, 2016, he agreed to terms with the Ottawa Senators and would return to the club that drafted him for the 2016-17 season.
