Jordan Krestanovich was born June 14, 1981 in Langley, British Columbia. The 7th choice, 152nd overall selection of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Krestanovich is a graduate of the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen.

The Langley, British Columbia native spent four seasons in the WHL with the Hitmen reaching career highs in goals (40), assists (60) and points (100), during his final season in 2000-01. Among the WHL leaders in all offensive categories, goals (t-8th), assists (5th), points (t-7th), shorthanded assists (t-1st), and shorthanded points (t-2nd) Krestanovich represented the WHL Eastern Conference at the 2001 CHL All-Star Cup.

Following the 1999-2000 WHL season, Krestanovich made his minor professional debut with Colorado's AHL affiliate in Hershey, playing in one playoff game before returning to the Hitmen for his final year of junior hockey in 2000-01. Coming off his most productive season in the WHL in 2000-01, Krestanovich, Calgary's Most Sportsmanlike Player was assigned to Hershey for the 2001 AHL playoffs where he played in two games before becoming a main stay with the team the following year.

Even though he spent the majority of the season in the AHL with Hershey, Krestanovich went on to play eight games with the parent club, before returning to the minors. Over the course of the next two seasons, Krestanovich split his time between Hershey and Colorado before joining the AHL's Houston Aeros.
