Over the course of his four years with the Golden Gophers, Hauser registered a 83-50-16 record while leading the school to its first national championship in 23 years during the 2001-02 season. The all-time goaltending leader in games played (151), wins (83) and shutouts (8), Hauser went on to make his professional debut in 2002-03 with the ECHL's Jackson Bandits while seeing action in one game with the AHLs Providence Bruins.

After an impressive rookie season in the ECHL, Hauser signed as a free agent with the AHL's Manchester Monarchs in the summer of 2003. The former Golden Gopher continued to put up impressive numbers with 20 wins in Manchester and in the summer of 2004 signed as a free-agent with the Los Angeles Kings. Hauser continued to hone his skills in the minors for the next two seasons while seeing his first action with the Kings during the 2005-06 season.
