Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mikko Eloranta
Two-way forward Mikko Eloranta joined the Boston Bruins in 1999 after already establishing himself in the Finnish Elite League. Eloranta, who was 26 years old when he was drafted by Boston, made the team during his first training camp and provided them with grit, versatility and depth for their lines.

Eloranta's first season saw him play 50 games and provide 18 points. His second year in Boston was an improvement with Eloranta upping his point total to 23 on the strength of 12 goals and 11 assists. His third season in the NHL began uneventfully with Eloranta held off the score sheet for the his first six games, but his season was about to change.

The Bruins were involved in an extended contract squabble with their star forward, Jason Allison and when they finally resolved the issue, it affected Eloranta. On October 21, 2001, six games into the Bruins schedule, Allison was shipped to the Los Angeles Kings with Eloranta in exchange for forwards Jozef Stumpel and Glenn Murray.

In Los Angeles the hard-working Finn bolstered the Kings checking line with strong skating and managed to chip in nine goals and 18 points. In February Eloranta joined the Finnish National Team at the Salt Lake City Olympic Games and continued his strong play with the Kings in 2002-03.

Aside from his Olympic experience in 2002, Eloranta has represented his homeland on numerous occasions including; World Championships (1998, 1999, 2003 and 2005) and World Cup of Hockey (2004).
