Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Hannes Hyvonen
Hannes Hyvonen was born August 29, 1975 in Oulu, Finland. The 9th round choice, 257th overall selection of the San Jose Sharks in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Hyvonen came to North America after playing the previous years in Finland.

The 6'2", 200lbs forward had his most productive year in Finland during the 1998-99 season, leading Espoo in goals with 23 and finished second in points with 41. Although he began the 1999-2000 season with Espoo, IFK acquired Hyvonen during the season before he joined HIFK in 2000-01.

After seven years in Finland, Hyvonen made the jump to the NHL in 2001-02 and spent the majority of his first professional season in North America with the Sharks AHL affiliate in Cleveland. Hyvonen spent the 2002-03 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets and scored his first NHL goal that season.

On the international stage, Hannes Bergenheim represented Finland at the 2008 World Championships.
