Mathieu Darche was born November 26, 1976 in St. Laurent, Quebec. A free-agent signing by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the spring of 2000, Darche played four years at the University of McGill before making his professional debut with the AHL's Syracuse Crunch in the fall of 2000. An offensively gifted forward, Darche tallied 60 goals and 70 assists for 130 points in 90 games with the Redmen. Upon his arrival in the Blue Jacket organization, Darche spent most of his time in Syracuse scoring 40 points (16-24-40) in his rookie season while seeing action in nine games with the parent club. Over the course of the next two seasons Darche continued to improve on his totals in the AHL with the Crunch, tallying 45 points (22-23-40) in 2001-02 and 64 points (32-32-64) in 2002-03.

After three seasons with the Columbus organization, Darche joined the Nashville Predators in the summer of 2003, and went to play one season in the organization before being acquired by the Colorado Avalanche in the summer of 2004.

On July 10, 2006 Darche signed on with the San Jose Sharks and would appear in two games for the club, but spent the majority of the season withe club's AHL affiliate.

The following summer, again a free agent, Darche signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning and would appear in a career-high 73 games during the 2007-08 season.

Darche would spend a season with Buffalo Sabres' AHL affiliate in Portland before inking a deal with the Montreal Canadiens in the summer of 2009.
