Anton Volchenkov was born February 25, 1982 in Moscow, Russia. The first round, 21st overall selection of the Ottawa Senators in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Volchenkov came to North America in 2002-03 after spending the previous two years in Russia as a member of the Soviet Wings.

In his first season in the NHL, Vochenkov saw action in 57 games with the Senators before missing the majority of the 2003-04 season recovering from a shoulder injury.

On the International stage, Volchenkov was a member of Russia's Under-18 World Junior Team in 2000 and was a two-time member of its Under-20 World Junior Championship Team in 2001 and 2002 before suiting up for Russia at the 2002 World Hockey Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 2006, Volchenkov made his Olympic debut representing Russia at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and would again participate in the Olympic Games in 2010 in Vancouver.

On July 1, 2010, Volchenkov found himself an unrestricted free agent and was one of the most sought after defenseman of the summer. He signed a 6-year deal with the New Jersey Devils worth over $4 per season.
