Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Filip Novak
Filip Novak was born May 7, 1982 in Budejovice, Czech Republic. The second round, 64th overall selection of the New York Rangers in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Novak honed his skills in his homeland before making his North American debut in 1999-00 with the WHL's Regina Pats.

An offensively gifted defenseman, Novak went on to play three seasons in Regina registering 134 points (36-98-134) and was named to the WHL's Eastern Conference First All-Star Team before going on to make his professional debut in 2002-03.

Following an impressive junior career, Novak had his rights acquired by the Florida Panthers prior to the 2002-03 season and went on to make his pro debut with the Panthers AHL affiliate in San Antonio that same season. Named to the AHLs All-Rookie Team, Novak was named to the PlanetUSA roster for the 2003 AHL All-Star Game before having to sit out the entire 2003-04 season recovering from an ankle injury.

Novak returned in 2004-05, yet his point totals dropped and was subsequently dealt to the Ottawa Senators. In his first season with the Senators organization in 2005-06, Novak spent most of the season with the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton, however, impressed the Senators brass enough to warrant his first game action with the parent club in the latter stages of the season.

In the summer of 2006, Novak was signed as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
