Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Niclas Wallin
Niclas Wallin was born February 20, 1975 in Boden, Sweden. The third pick, 97th overall selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Wallin spent the early part of his career with Brynas IF Gavle in Sweden before making his North American and NHL debut in 2000-01.

A stay-at-home-defenceman, Wallin played eight games with the Hurricanes AHL affiliate Cincinnati before making his NHL debut with the parent club. In only his second season with club in 2001-02, Wallin was instrumental in the Hurricanes playoff drive to the Stanley Cup final, scoring two game-winning goals before falling to a talented Detroit Red Wing team in the final.

Wallin established a career high in points with 10 in 2002-03 and duplicated that feat in 2003-04. A year after the lockout found Wallin and the Hurricanes back into the playoff picture. Wallin's playoff experience was used well as the defenceman played in each of Carolina's twenty-five games en route to a Stanley Cup championship.

On the international stage, Wallin represented his homeland at the 1998 World Junior Championships and the 2008 World Championships.

On February 7, 2010, Wallin was traded from the Hurricanes to the San Jose Sharks in a deal that saw Carolina acquire a second round draft choice.
