Brian Fahey was born on March 2, 1981 Glenview, Illinois. He played his collegiate hockey at the University of Wisconsin and was selected in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.

After toiling in the American Hockey League for years, Fahey was finally summoned to the NHL for the first time in 2010. On October 16 he suited up for the Washington Capitals in a 3-2 overtime win versus the Nashville Predators.
In all, Fahey would play in 7 games for the Capitals during the 2010-11 season and record his first NHL point.
