Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Freddy Meyer
Frederick Meyer was born January 4, 1981 in Sanbornville, New Hampshire. A graduate of the US Jr. National Program, Meyer went on to enroll at Boston University in the fall of 1999, and played four years at BU before making his professional debut during the 2003-04 season.

At 510 and 192lbs, Meyer is considered small when it comes to defencemen, yet his offensive numbers and strong play impressed the Philadelphia Flyers enough to sign him as a free agent in the spring of 2003. A member of the US World Junior Team in 1999 and its Under-17 Team in 1998, Meyer totaled 72 points (17-55-72) in 126 career games at BU, receiving numerous honours including Hockey East All-Rookie Team honours in 99-2000, First Team All-American and First Team All-Hockey East honours in 2002-03.

After spending the better part of the season in the AHL with the Philadelphia Phantoms, Meyer made his NHL debut with the parent club in the latter stages of the 2003-04 season.

Following a lock out year, Meyer would compete in 57 games with the Flyers in the 2005-06 season and was third in NHL rookie scoring. However the following season the Flyers were in desperate search for experienced defenceman, and would send Meyer and a conditional 3rd round draft pick to the New York Islanders in exchange for Alexei Zhitnik.

On August 19, 2010 Meyer signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Thrashers as an unrestricted free agent.
