Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Brendan Bell
Brendan Bell was born March 31, 1983 in Ottawa, Ontario. The third round, 65th overall selection of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Bell is a graduate of the OHL's Ottawa 67's.

An offensive defenseman, Bell played four seasons with the 67's registering 171 points (32-139-171) while earning OHL First All-Star Team honours (2003), CHL First All-Star Team honours (2003) and CHL Defenseman of the Year honours (2003).

A member of Canada's silver medal winning World Junior team in 2004, Bell went on to make his professional debut with the AHL's St. John's Maple Leafs in 2003-04 and over the course of the next three seasons consistently saw his offensive numbers increase, impressing the Maple Leaf brass enough to earn his first start with the big club in the latter stages of the 2005-06 season.

In the 2006-07 season Bell was used periodically in 31 games with the Leafs after three full seasons in the AHL. At the NHL trade deadline, Bell's tenure with the Leafs came to an end as he was dealt to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for Yanic Perreault. The following season Bell would spend most of his time with the Coyotes' AHL affiliate in San Antonio and see action in a pair of NHL games. The Coyotes opted not to re-sign the unrestricted free agent, as a result Bell signed with the Ottawa Senators.

Following 63 games for the Senators in 2008-09, Bell was once again a free agent, this time he chose to sign with the St. Louis Blues, though he would spend less than one season with the club before being shipped to the Columbus Blue Jackets as part of a three player trade.
