Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Tomas Malec
Tomas Malec was born May 13, 1982 in Skaldic, Slovakia. The third round, 64th overall selection of the Florida Panthers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Malec is a graduate of the QMJHL's Rimouski Oceanic.

A highly touted defenceman, in his two seasons with Rimouski, Malec scored 27 goals and added 82 assists for 109 points in 115 games. Following a career year with the Oceanic, Malec joined the AHL's Lowell Lock Monsters for their 2002 Calder Cup playoff run while earlier in the season had his NHL rights traded to the Carolina Hurricanes.

In 2002-03 and 2003-04, Malec split his time between Lowell and Carolina, before being acquired by the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in the summer of 2004. Although he was acquired by the Ducks, Malec never saw any action with the club, instead, he spent the entire 2004-05 season with the AHL's Cincinnati Mighty Ducks before joining the Ottawa Senators in the summer of 2005.

Malec would spend the majority of his 2005-06 season with the Senators' AHL affiliate in Binghamton. That season Malec would recorded an AHL career-high in assists and compete in 79 games.

In the summer of 2006, the Senators would trade Malec to the New York Islanders for Matt Koalska.
