Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Noah Welch
Noah Welch was born August 26, 1982 in Brighton, MA. The second round, 54th overall selection of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Welch is a graduate of the ECAC's Harvard Crimson Tide.

A hulking defenseman, Welch played four years at Harvard registering 95 points (23-72-95) while capturing numerous honours, including; All-ECAC Rookie Team (2001-02), Second Team ACHA/Jofa All-American honours, First Team All-Ivy League and Second Team All-ECAC (2002-03), Second Team All-Ivy League (2003-04), First Team All-American and First Team All-ECAC (2004-05).

Following a strong collegiate career at Harvard, Welch began the 2005-06 season with the Penguins AHL affiliate in Wilkes-Barre before he made his NHL debut with the parent club in the latter stages of the season. The following year Welch split his season between the Penguins and their AHL affiliate in Wiles-Barre before he was dealt to the Florida Panthers.

At the 2009 NHL trade deadline, Welch was traded again, this time to the divisional rival Lightning of Tampa Bay. That would not bee the final time Welch would be on the move in 2009 however, as he signed on with the Atlanta Thrashers as an unrestricted free agent in July of that year.
