Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Christian Ehrhoff
Christian Ehrhoff was born July 6, 1982 in Moers, Germany. The fourth round, 106th overall selection of the San Jose Sharks in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Ehroff honed his skills in Germany before making his North American debut in 2003-04.

A solid defender, Ehrhoff played four seasons with Krefeld in Germany and in his first season in North America, split his time between San Jose and the team's AHL affiliate in Cleveland.

In San Jose, Ehrhoff began to emerge as one of the league's top offensive defenders. His 42 points in 2008-09 ranked him in the top 25 scorers among NHL defeneceman.

On August 28, 2009, Ehrhoff was traded to the Vancouver Canucks with Brad Lukowich in exchange for Patrick White and Daniel Rahimiin.

In Vancouver, the defender continued to grow as an offensive contributer, with seasons of 44 and 50 points respectively as was part of the Canucks run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011.

In the summer of 2011, with free agency approaching, the Canucks traded Ehrhoff's negotiation rights to the New York Islanders. Unable to come to terms with the defenceman, the Islanders traded his rights the next day to the Buffalo Sabres.

On July 1, 2011, Ehrhoff inked a 10-year deal worth $40 million with the Buffalo Sabres. Ehrhoff's first season in Buffalo would be a struggle. Perhaps burdened by expectations that come from large contracts, the defenceman managed just five goals and 27 assists for 32 points.

Ehrhoff would appear in 47 games for the Sabres during the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season and provide the young Sabres team with steady two-way play. He would also establish himself as a leader of the club and was named alternate captain prior to the 2013-14 season.

After only two seasons, the Buffalo Sabres used one of their amnesty buyouts on Christian Ehrhoff to create space under the salary cap on June 29, 2014. Ehrhoff, now a free agent, signed a one year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins on July 1, 2014.

Ehrhoff played just a single season in Pittsburgh, scoring three times and adding 11 assists. On August 23, 2015, again a free agent, he inked a deal with the Los Angeles Kings.

Ehrhoff's time in Los Angeles would be short-lived. After just 40 games, in which the defenceman struggled, he was waived by the club and assigned to their AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. After just five games for the Reign, Ehrhoff was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Rob Scuderi.
