Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Marek Zidlicky
Marek Zidlicky was born February 3, 1977 in Kladno, Czech Republic. The sixth round, 176th overall selection of the New York Rangers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Zidlicky honed his skills in his homeland with his hometown before moving on to Finland in 1999-00.

An offensively gifted defenseman, Zidlicky is a two-time member of the Czech Republic's World Junior team (1995-1996) who went on to play five seasons with Kladno before signing with HIFK Helsinki of the Finnish Elite League in the summer of 1999. Over the course of the next four seasons, Zidlicky had either led or tied for the Finnish Elite League lead in defenseman scoring (2001-03).

In December 2002, Zidlicky had his rights acquired by the Nashville Predators and he went on to make his NHL debut in 2003-04. In his first season with the Predators, Zidlicky registered 53 points (14-39-53). Over the next four seasons with Nashville, the offensive minded Zidlicky would regularly lead the clubs defensemen in scoring.

After four full seasons in Nashville, Zidlicky was dealt by the cub to the Minnesota Wild for Ryan Jones and a 2nd round choice in 2009 Entry Draft on July 1, 2008.

A member of team Czech Republic at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, Zidlicky went on to help his homeland capture the 2005 World Championship. He also represented team Czech Republic at the 2006 Winter Games and the 2007 & 2008 World Championships.

In Minnesota, Zidlicky continued his strong offensive play, topping the 40 point mark on two occasions. On February 24, 2012, the NHL's trade deadline, Zidlicky was traded to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Kurtis Foster, Nick Palmieri, Stephane Veilleux and a pair of draft picks.

Zidlicky played four seasons with the New Jersey Devils before he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for a third round draft choice at the 2015 trade deadline.

As an unrestricted free agent, Zidlicky signed a one year contract with the New York Islanders on September 18, 2015.
