Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Anton Babchuk
Anton Babchuk was born May 6, 1984 in Kiev, Ukraine. The first round, 21st overall selection of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Babchuk honed his skills in the Russian leagues before making his North American debut in 2003-04.

A hulking defenseman, Babchuk played three seasons with Elektrostal and split his final season between AK Bars and St. Petersburg before joining the AHL's Norfolk Admirals for the 2003-04 season. A two-time member of Russia's U18 team, Babchuk spent the better part of the season in Norfolk while seeing limited action with Chicago.

Following the lockout season of 2004-05, in which Babchuk spent the entire season in Norfolk, the Kiev, Ukraine native returned to the Hawks in 2005-06 before being dealt to the Carolina Hurricanes just prior to the 2006 Oylympic break. Following 22 regular season games, Babchuk only traveled and practiced throughout the playoffs with a Hurricane team that went on to win the Stanley Cup in 2006. After spending a season in Russia, Babchuk was signed in the 2008 off-season by the Carolina Hurricanes.

On November 17, 2010 Babchuk's time in Carolina would come to an end. He was traded to the Calgary Flames along with Tom Kostopoulos in exchange for Brett Sutter and Ian White.
