Sean Bergenheim was born February 8, 1974 in Helsinki, Finland. The first round, 22nd overall selection of the New York Islanders in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Bergenheim honed his skills with Jokerit Helsinki in the Finnish Elite League before making his North American debut in 2003-04.

The Islanders first rounder in the 2002 Entry Draft went on to play 18 games with the Islanders, splitting his between the NHL and his club team in Helsinki before suiting for the Islanders AHL affiliate in Bridgeport Sound for the post season.

On the international stage, Bergenheim has represented Finland twice at the Under 18 World Championships, three times at the World Junior Championships and twice at the World Championships.

On August 17, 2010, Bergenheim inked a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Lightning as an unrestricted free agent.
