Trevor Daley was born October 9, 1983 in Toronto, Ontario. The second round, 43rd overall selection of the Dallas Stars in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Daley is a graduate of the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

A strong skating offensive defenceman, Daley played four seasons in the Soo tallying 188 points (59-129-188) before making his professional debut in 2003-04. Upon his arrival to the pro ranks, Daley spent the majority of his playing time with the Stars AHL affiliate in Utah while seeing limited action with the parent club.

After honing his skills in the AHL with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Daley became a regular in the Dalls Stars line-up throughout the 2005-06 season appearing in 81 games.

October 8, 2011, Daley appeared in his 500th career game with the Dallas Stars.

Prior to the 2015-16, Daley, along with Ryan Garbutt, was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for Patrick Sharp and Stephen Johns.

Daley played in 26 games for the Blackhawks before he was once again traded. This time to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Rob Scuderi. Daley would appear in 53 regular-season games for the Penguins as the season came to an end. He also suited up in 15 post-season games for club, and though ankle injury sidelined him, he helped the Penguins to the fourth Stanley Cup championship in franchise history.

Injuries would limit Daley to just 56 games during the 2016-17 season. When healthy he recorded five goals and added 14 assists while providing the Penguins stability on the back end. Daley also appeared in 21 post-season games for the Penguins, helping the club to their second consecutive Stanley Cup title.

On July 1, 2017 Daley's time in the Penguins organization would come to an end. He signed as free agent with the Detroit Wings.
