Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Fredrik Norrena
Fredrik Norrena was born November 29, 1974 in Pietarsaari, Finland. Tampa Bay's eighth pick, 213th overall, in the 2002 Entry Drat, Norrena honed his skills in his homeland before he made his NHL debut with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

A 6'0 netminder, Norrena began his pro hockey career with TPS in the SM-liiga of the Finish League. After capturing four Finnish championships, Norrena won the Swedish championship with Vastra Frolunda HC in 2003-04. Over the next three seasons he would compete in the Swedish league with Linkopings.

In the summer of 2006, the Tampa Bay Lightning signed their former draft pick to a one-year entry level contract. However, just over a month later, the club dealt Norrena along with Fredrik Modein to the Columbus Blue Jackets. With his new club, Norrena made his NHL debut and through 55 games he posted a 24-23-3 record with a 2.78 GAA. The following season, he went 10-19-6 on a struggling Blue Jackets club which failed to qualify for the playoffs.

On the international stage, Norena has represented his homeland at numerous competitions including the 2006 Winter Olympics.
