Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Shawn Belle
Shawn Belle was born January 3rd, 1985 in Edmonton, Alberta. Selected first round, 30th overall, in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, Belle is a graduate of the WHL's Regina Pats and Tri-City Americans.

A highly touted prospect, Belle spent four years with the Tri-City Americans where he became the club's best all around player. Mid-way through his stint in Tri-City, he was drafted by the St. Louis Blues who then traded him to the Dallas Stars for goalie Jason Bacashihua.

Belle made his professional hockey debut in the 2005-06 season joining the Dallas Stars' AHL affiliate, the Iowa Stars. After only 45 games with the Stars he was dealt to the Minnesota Wild. As a member of the Minnesota Wild, Belle would spend the majority of his time with the club's AHL affiliate in Houston before making his NHL debut with the club on December 2nd, 2006.

In 2007-08, Belle competed in yet another season in Houston before the 6-2 defenseman was dealt by the Wild to Montreal for Cory Locke on July 11, 2008.

Belle would spend the majority of his time in the Montreal organization with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the American Hockey League, appearing in just two games for the Canadiens.

In the summer of 2010, as an unrestricted free agent, Belle inked a deal with his hometown Edmonton Oilers, but his time in the Oilers' system would be brief. On February 28, 2011 Belle was traded to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for defender Kevin Montgomery.

On the international stage, Belle represented his homeland and captured two gold medals at two World Junior Hockey Championships (2003, 2004).
