Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Danny Richmond
Danny Richmond was born August 1, 1984 in Chicago, Illinois. The second round, 31st overall selection of the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Richmond is a graduate of the USHL.

An offensively gifted defenseman, Richmond registered 53 points (8-45-53) with the Chicago Steel of the USHL earning numerous individual honours including; USHL Rookie of the Year (2002), USHL All-Rookie Team (2002) and First Team USHL All-Star (2002). Following an impressive season in the USHL, Richmond enrolled at the University of Michigan in the fall of 2002 and earned CCHA All-Rookie Team honours before opting leave the university the following year to join the London Knights of the OHL.

Upon his arrival with the Knights, Richmond continued his offensive ways, registering 35 points (13-22-35) in his only season with the club before making his professional debut with the Hurricanes AHL affiliate Lowell the following season. A member of the United States gold medal winning World Junior team in 2004, Richmond went on to make his NHL debut with Carolina during the 2005-06 season, while spending the majority of the first half of the season in the AHL with Lowell.

However, prior to the Olympic break, the Chicago, Illinois native was dealt to the Chicago Blackhawks. Over the next three seasons, Richmond would split his time between the Blackhawks and their AHL affiliates in Norfolk and Rockford.

The rebuilding Blackhawks traded Richmond to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the summer of 2008 for centreman Tim Brent.

On March 4, 2009, the NHL trade deadline, Richmond was on the move again. This time traded by the Blues to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Andy Woznieski.

On March 1, 2010, in the days leading up to the NHL trade deadline, Richmond was shipped to the Chicago Blackhawks along with Hannu Toivonen in exchange for goaltender Joe Fallon.

On July 3, 2011, Richmond signed a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals organization. His time in the Capitals' organization would be brief however. He was traded on February 2, 2012, to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Mike Carman.
