Ivan Baranka was born May 19, 1985 in Ilva, Slovakia. New York's second round, 50th overall selection in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, Baranka honed his skills in Slovakia prior his arrival in the WHL with the Everett Silvertips.
A solid defenseman, Baranka spent a pair of seasons in the WHL where he registered a respectable 23 points in his last season in Everett. He made his professional hockey debut the following season with the Hartford Wolfpack, the AHL affiliate of the New York Rangers, and went on fight through an injury plagued season. After yet another shortened season due to injury, Baranka appeared in 61 games with the Wolfpack and made his NHL debut with the Rangers.
After his 2007-08 season came to an end, Baranka Signed with Spartak Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
