Dylan Reese was born on August 29, 1984 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Though originally drafted by the New York Rangers in 2003, the Harvard graduate made his professional debut with the Phoenix Coyotes' AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage, in 2007.

In the summer of 2009 Reese signed a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He was spent the majority of the season with the team's AHL affiliate in Syracuse before being shipped to the New York Islanders in the days leading up to the NHL trade deadline. Reese would make his NHL debut for the Islanders, seeing action in 19 games, recording two goals and two assists.
