Andy Wozniewski was born May 25, 1980 in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. A free-agent signing of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the spring of 2004, Wozniewski played one season with Mass-Lowell before opting to continue to hone his skills in the NAJHL with the Texas.

Following an impressive season in Texas, Wozniewski enrolled at the University of Wisconsin in the fall of 2001 and went on to play three seasons with at the school before making his professional debut with the AHL's St. John's Maple Leafs in the spring of 2004.

The hulking defenseman went on to play one more season in the AHL before making his NHL debut with Toronto during the 2005-06 season. The following year, he split his time between the Leafs and their AHL affiliate but missed 49 games with a shoulder injury which required surgery. He continued to patrol both the Marlies and Maple Leafs bluelines throughout the 2007-08 season before he signed the following summer as an unrestricted free agent by the St. Louis Blues, where he would play just a single game for the Blues before being traded at the NHL trade deadline to the Pittsburgh Penquins.
