Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Boris Valabik
Boris Valabik was born on February 14, 1986 in Nitra, Slovakia. The first round, 10th overall selection of the Atlanta Thrashers in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, Valabik honed his skills in his homeland prior to his arrival in North America.

A rugged rearguard, Valabik left Slovakia to prepare himself for the NHL and joined the OHL's Kitchener Rangers. Over three seasons in Kitchener, the Slovakian native rarely showed his soft side, racking up over 200 penalty minutes per season. He made the leap the following season to the AHL's Chicago Wolves and would spend the majority of his time with the club over the next few seasons. In 2007-08, Valabik made his NHL debut on March 28, 2008 with the Thrashers and went on to compete in seven games with the club.

Valabik was part of the tenth place Slovakian squad at the 2009 World Championships held in Switzerland.

After spending the majority of his time in the Atlanta organization with the club's AHL affiliate, the Chicago Wolves, the gritty defenseman was shipped to the Boston Bruins along with Rich Peverley in exchange for Blake Wheeler and Mark Stuart on February 18, 2011.
