Kris Chucko was born on March 13, 1986 in Burnaby, British Columbia. A scoring star in the BCHL, he was drafted by the Calgary Flames in the first round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2004.

Chucko spent two seasons at the University of Minnesota, before signing a contract with the Flames in May of 2006. He would soon join the Flames' AHL affiliate, where he would spend the majority of the next three seasons.

In 2008-09, Chucko's hard work within the Flames organization was rewarded. He was summoned to the NHL for his first stint with the Flames. Chucko appeared in two games for the Flames, failing to record a point.
