Grant Lewis was born January 20, 1985 in Upper Saint Clair, Pennsylvania. Lewis was drafted 40th overall in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Atlanta Thrashers. He played collegiate hockey with Dartmouth College prior to signing with the Thrashers on July 6, 2007.

Lewis made his professional debut in the 200708 season with the Thrashers affiliate, the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. In the 200809 season, Lewis was called up by the Thrashers to appear in his first NHL game, a 4-3 loss against the Florida Panthers.
